Bringing two Microsoft 365 environments together into one future-proof digital foundation
After the merger of ROC Friese Poort and Friesland College, Firda faced the task of combining two complete Microsoft 365 environments. That required more than a technical migration: it was a programme of harmonisation, clean-up and future-oriented choices.

Context
Firda was created by the merger of ROC Friese Poort and Friesland College. Both organisations worked with their own Microsoft 365 environment, each with its own history, configuration and ways of working. Bringing those environments together is a logical part of such a merger, but the complexity goes far beyond technically moving data.
A tenant-to-tenant migration requires fundamental choices: which standards do we adopt, how do we organise information, what do we bring along and what not? This was the moment not only to migrate, but also to simplify and give new direction to the digital environment.
The challenge
The challenge in this migration went beyond technology. Two digital worlds had to be brought together, each with its own logic and structure. That meant:
Our approach
The approach deliberately went further than executing a migration. Before the technical move, the existing situation was critically examined: which data still has value, which structures can be simplified and where are the opportunities to improve the configuration?
That led to targeted clean-up and rationalisation. Data that no longer added value was not migrated. Shared mailboxes were assessed for relevance and merged or phased out where possible. Governance and standardisation were not arranged afterwards, but built into the migration strategy from the start.
The strength of this approach was combining technical execution with control over structure, data quality and usability. Not just migrating, but harmonising.
The solution
The result is a tenant-to-tenant migration focused not only on continuity, but also on improvement. Data was cleaned up, mailbox structures were reconsidered and the new organisation gained a better starting point for collaboration and management.
The migration was therefore also an opportunity to rationalise and choose a new direction. Firda now has one Microsoft 365 environment that is logically configured, free of unnecessary clutter and ready for the future. Not a legacy of two organisations, but a deliberately chosen foundation for one.
